emotional state
It's 2021, and Melbourne is riding the turbulent waves of COVID-19 lockdowns switching between stringent restrictions and brief re-openings, only to plunge back into lockdowns again.
During these tumultuous times, a palpable sense of unrest stirred in the streets.
People took to social media, voicing their frustrations with messages proclaiming the government couldn't keep them locked down without a fight. This digital dissent soon crystallized into action, sparking the first of many protests organized through Telegram. As independent journalists and activists live-streamed the unfolding events, their broadcasts reached thousands.
Compelled by one such stream, I decided to venture into the heart of the protests. I've always been intrigued by the raw intensity of moments where people clash with police, where the air is thick with defiance and the risk of violence looms large. The thrill of capturing such powerful interactions through my lens was irresistible.
So I suited up for the occasion, donning long sleeves, a robust vest, a beanie, gloves, and ski goggles to protect myself, especially since the police were targeting media members with capsicum spray.
"Ikuzo!" I whispered to myself
The rally summoned people from all across Victoria!
It was Saturday 24th of July 2021
At this point of my photography journey I was still coming to terms of what my own style consisted of, as you can see there was a lot of experimentation with different types of colour gradients

The next protest unfolded on 20/11/21, marking a particularly intriguing day.
Coinciding with one of the 'Freedom Rallies,' there was also a Pro-Covid Vaccine Anti-Fascist Rally.
I stumbled upon this gathering quite by chance as I parked my car, initially aiming to attend the original rally. The scene was intense members of a socialist group were swarming around, notably blocking usual streamers like Real Rukshan from entering the rally to broadcast the event.
In such a tense environment, I decided the best approach was to blend in seamlessly. I covered my face, slung a lanyard with a card around my neck, and walked in with confidence as if I wholly belonged there.

After taking a few photos and the protest was moving on, I decided to make haste towards the Freedom Rally,
I was tracking it location on the live stream so I was able to move on an intercepting path so I could get the front of the rally to take photos
Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot; for there is a reason why gunpowder and treason should ne'er be forgot.”
